KOREAN WAR (1950~1953)

  • After WWII (1945), Korean peninsula is divided at 38th parallel 
  • USA occupies the South and the North is handed to Russia
  • Built-up Cold War tensions and other political disagreements on the peninsula triggers a civil war on June 25, 1950
  • Heavy bombing during the war destroys most of the peninsula
  • Armistice Agreement was signed on July 27, 1953 (Both Koreas have agreed to cease fire, no peace agreement has been signed.)
